Kitchen countertops and worktops for your space
Choose a kitchen surface around how you cook, clean and use the room. Compare the character of natural stone with quartz and porcelain, then plan your island, worktop and splashback as one composition. SlabsWorld can help you explore designs and discuss material supply against your dimensions and preferred finish.

CHOOSING YOUR SURFACE
Start with your kitchen routine
A busy family kitchen, a show kitchen and a separate preparation kitchen can each call for different priorities. The surface that suits one room may not be the right choice for another, even within the same home.
Think about what matters most to you: easy everyday care, natural variation, a dramatic island, a restrained palette or a splashback that coordinates with the worktop.
Appearance is the first shortlist. The selected product and its fabrication requirements determine the final choice.
Questions to ask first
- What type of kitchen is it: family, show or preparation?
- How often is it used each day?
- Who cooks, and how?
- What look do you prefer: veined, calm, dark or warm?
- Is the island for prep, serving or seating?
Compare four kitchen materials
A general orientation only. Always confirm the exact product, finish and fabrication details before you decide.
Quartz
- Appearance: consistent patterns, from calm solids to veined looks.
- Care: straightforward everyday cleaning per manufacturer guidance.
- Heat precautions: SPECTA quartz is an indoor option; use trivets and follow the manufacturer's heat precautions.
- Edges & details: edge profiles and joints depend on the fabricator.
- Checks before you choose: confirm indoor use, thickness, finish and care instructions.
Granite
- Appearance: natural speckles and movement; each slab differs.
- Care: depends on the specific stone and any sealing advice.
- Heat precautions: confirm guidance for the exact material; protective trivets are still sensible.
- Edges & details: confirm achievable profiles and cut-outs with the fabricator.
- Checks before you choose: confirm the exact material, finish and fabrication details.
Marble
- Appearance: expressive natural veining with unique character.
- Care: for people who accept ongoing care and a developing patina; may mark or etch.
- Heat precautions: protect from hot pans and follow product guidance.
- Edges & details: vein direction and book-matching need planning.
- Checks before you choose: review the full slab, finish and care expectations.
Porcelain
- Appearance: printed designs, including marble and stone looks.
- Care: follow the specific product's cleaning guidance.
- Heat precautions: confirm guidance for the exact product and thickness.
- Edges & details: the edge may differ from the printed face; confirm detailing.
- Checks before you choose: confirm the exact material, thickness and fabrication details.
Worktop, island and splashback layouts
L-shaped worktops, straight runs, islands and full-height splashbacks each use slabs differently. Corners and long runs often need joints, so agree early where they will sit and how the pattern will flow across them. Visible end panels and waterfall sides show the slab face, while a worktop edge shows only its thickness profile – the face and the edge can read very differently.
Consider vein direction from worktop to splashback, and how sink and hob openings will interrupt the pattern. Support and overhang details depend on the selected material and your fabricator's guidance.
- Overall length of each worktop run
- Worktop depths
- Island length and width
- Upstand or splashback height
- Sink and hob positions

Designs to explore
Explore white-veined, beige, dark and expressive looks to build your shortlist. Design inspiration is separate from confirmed application suitability – each candidate still needs product guidance and fabricator review for your kitchen.
A marble-look porcelain does not share the material properties of natural marble. The designs shown are visual candidates, not stocked or approved worktops.
LEONITH Arabescato Gold
CANDIDATE DESIGN

LEONITH PORCELAIN · WARM
A LEONITH porcelain design, not quartzite. A warm, subtle option to review.
What affects the quotation
A kitchen quotation reflects the material quantity, how efficiently the layout uses each slab, the number of cuts, edge profiles, sink and hob openings, the selected finish, and the handling and delivery involved. Every quotation should separate material supply from fabrication and installation, so you can see clearly what is and is not included. An installed price or turnaround can only be discussed once the full scope is confirmed.
Before you approve the slab
Ask for photographs of the actual slab, confirmation of the exact finish and thickness, the product guidance, a cutting layout, and approval from the fabricator responsible for your kitchen. A small sample shows colour and texture, but it cannot show how veining moves across a full slab or where it will land on your island, worktop and splashback.

For illustration only. Every slab is unique in colour and vein layout.
Kitchen countertops FAQs
Are kitchen platforms and countertops the same application?
Yes, in most cases. "Kitchen platform" is a common regional term for the worktop or countertop surface. The planning is the same: confirm the layout, openings, edges and the material's suitability for your use with the product guidance and your fabricator.
How do quartz, granite, marble and porcelain differ for my kitchen?
Quartz offers a consistent look for indoor use, with manufacturer heat precautions. Granite brings natural variation, and marble suits people who accept its care needs and patina over time. Porcelain offers many stone-look designs but has different properties from the stone it resembles. For granite and porcelain, the exact material and fabrication details need confirming before you choose.
Can the island and splashback use the same design?
Often, yes. Using one design creates a coordinated look, but it depends on slab size, quantity and how the vein layout is planned across each piece. Discuss the full composition early so the cutting layout can be reviewed as a whole.
What dimensions and drawings do you need for a quotation?
Share the kitchen layout, overall worktop lengths and depths, island size, splashback or upstand height, and the positions of sink and hob openings. A simple sketch or designer's drawing helps. Final measurements should be taken on site by the responsible fabricator.
Can I see the full slab before selection?
Ask us about viewing options for the design you are considering. Where possible, request photographs of the actual slab so you can review its full vein pattern before approving. Availability varies by product and should be confirmed at the time of enquiry.
